Can I fix a clogged drain on my own?
Minor clogs in your drains can often be cleared using a plunger or drain snake, which are inexpensive tools that you can purchase at most hardware stores. To use a plunger, place the cup of the plunger over the drain and pump it up and down vigorously to create suction. If the clog is not cleared after several attempts, you may need to use a drain snake, which is a flexible wire tool that can be inserted into the drain to break up the clog.
However, for more stubborn clogs or for clogs in your main sewer line, it’s generally recommended that you contact a licensed plumber. Attempting to clear a severe clog on your own can damage your pipes or cause further issues. A licensed plumber has the expertise and specialized tools needed to safely and effectively clear even the most stubborn clogs, and can also provide recommendations for preventing clogs in the future.
